The local unit of UAE-based mobile operator Etisalat recently revealed, in a statement, its launch of a recycling project aimed at "reusing discarded hoarding flexes, while at the same time engaging in the empowerment of rural women".
According to the local mobile company, these hoardings, which are its own and often dumped following its the conclusion of advertising campaigns, will be recycled into grocery bags made by rural housewives. These bags will then be sold at a nominal price, with part of the income garnered given back to reimburse these housewives.
Launched in partnership with the Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies, the first manufacturing facility was opened in Lunama Ambalantota recently. |
