A 20-year-old woman from Awissawella who allegedly burnt her two children was remanded until August 4, Police said.
The woman who reportedly had problems in her marriage had been cooking when her 18-months-old son had started crying.
The woman had picked up a firebrand and burnt him on three spots. When her five-year-old daughter entered the kitchen she had burnt her too, police said.
The children were admitted to hospital, police said adding that the husband had lodged the complaint.
The young woman had married when she was only 14 years.
Subsequently she had had marital problems and had gone to live with her parents. She had returned home only recently, before this tragedy occurred, police said. |
