Any article in the newspapers over the past decade or so on our “one and only” Murali simply irritates Bishen Bedi of bygone Indian fame.
Six odd years back when Murali was on the brink of reaching that magical (then) 500 wickets mark, Umpires Hair and Emerson called Murali’s action illegal.
ubsequently, when Murali reached the milestone figure (the bee was at work) Bedi lost his cool and in sheer frustration called Murali a chucker, a cheat and a dacoit!
The ICC, the sole authority on the subject, ignored the unwanted interruptions and Murali was back in the fray again. The 800th wicket achievement with all its attendant celebrations and international acclaims found Bedi furious with the busy bee in full buzz (sic) calling the whole event to be a chucking legend for the historians.
Some cricket loving theorists believe that Bedi’s unfair stance should be due to the fact that he was miserably deprived of taking big hauls like Murali because of the share basis involved in operating at that time with the three other spin wizards Chandrasekar, Venkat,Prasanna and Bedi himself.
Here are three hearty cheers for the all time legend!
