Isipathana College scored a convincing victory over St.Joseph’s College ( 50 – 12)in the Cup Final of the Zahira Rugby Sevens held on Sunday at the Royal College Sports Complex organized by Zahira College Group of Sixties. Isipathana received the Zahira Rugby Sevens Championship Trophy with a Cash Award of Rs.50,000/- with Gold Medals for members of the team. St. Joseph,s College received the Runners Up Trophy with a Cash Award of Rs.25,000/-.
Mekalanka Pramoda of Isipathana was adjudged the Outstanding Player of the Tournament. In the PPLATE Final Royal College won over Royal Panadura (14-0). Royal College, Colombo received the ‘plate’ with a Cash Award of Rs.25, 000/- with Silver Medals for the team, while Royal Panadura received Rs.15,000/- Cash Award and trophy. Ananda College defeated Prince of (Wales 31 -7) in the ‘bowl’ final and were awarded Bronze Medals.
The Chief Guest Kahtan Taha Khalaf, Ambassador for Iraq in Sri Lanka gave away the Championship Trophy and medals to the champion team. |
