Etisalat, claiming its an ‘extraordinary’ feat, this week announced an impressive three million subscribers and said it was heading for the next million subscribers.
The announcement came on the the heels of Etisalat’s recent expansion drive covering 480 new 2G sites, taking Etisalat’s standing in the island to the top spot in 2G coverage, with a total of 1580 sites, including all urban areas as well as steady expansion to the North East, the company said.
Separately Company CEO Dumindra Ratnayake said the next million subscribers – taking it to four million – would also be achieved soon as Etisalat is rolling out an expansion in coverage network upgrade to IP and latest in 3G with an investment of approximately $163 million this year. “We are confident that the next million will happen soon,” he said.
Etisalat (formerly Tigo) says, since its launch, it has seen a 24 % growth in subscriber base with a significant increase in market share, making it one of most powerful players in the telephonic arena in Sri Lanka.
