SriLankan Airlines achieved a significant milestone in aircraft-related training when it graduated its first batch of Aircraft Maintenance students under the prestigious EASA 147 European certification.
The airline said 26 students, including seven foreign students from the Maldives, Oman and India, underwent two years of rigorous training at SriLankan's Technical Training School at Bandaranaike International Airport.
A graduation ceremony was held recently at the Airport Garden Hotel. SriLankan is one of the few airlines in Asia to possess the EASA 147 training certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency. Its Technical Training School is also recognised by the aviation authorities of several nations in South Asia and the Middle East, which regularly have students trained at SriLankan.
The airline has trained more than 200 young men and women in aircraft maintenance since the continuous training programme commenced in 2003. Another 107 are now undergoing training, including 19 foreign students. The programme includes classroom instruction, practical experience in engineering workshops, and hands-on work on the SriLankan Airlines fleet of aircraft.
