Member organisations of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCISL) are urging the chamber council to hold the Annual General Meeting (AGM) before October 20 as the two terms of office of the present president Kosala Wickremanayake expired on September 15.
In a letter signed by 25 regional chamber organisations, it has been pointed out there was no valid reason to postpone the AGM as the annual audit and accounts statements were ready for presentation. When contacted by the Business Times, Dr. Thusitha Tennakoon, FCCISL Secretary General, said that according to the Memorandum of Articles of Association there is time to hold the AGM which was last held in December 2009.
It should be held after 15 months of the previous AGM, he said adding that the president has the powers to convene the AGM anytime before that date. FCCISL President Kosala Wickremanayake, was unavailable for contact as he is attending a conference in Vietnam. The letter was sent to all members of the chamber council. |
