Madushan and Nuwan shine in drawn game

S. Thomas’ right arm pacie Madushan Ravichandrakumar and Nuwan Kavinda shone in their drawn Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter against Thurstan which concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday.
Madushan who ended with impressive figures of 6 for 49 in the first inning followed it up with another four wicket haul to end with a match bag of 10 for 95 while Nuwan continued his batting form when he cracked another half ton.

The Thomians resuming on their overnight score of 46 for 3 overhauled the Thurstan score of 195 when they made 204. Apart from Nuwan’s knock of 61 which had eight boundaries the Thomian score was boosted by a 50 runs stand for the sixth wicket between skipper Chamod Pathirana and Ramith Gunaratne.

For Thurstan Praboda Arthavidu and Sachith Dias shared eight wickets between them. Thurstan batting the second time ended the day making 156 for 5 before rain stopped play with Praboda making a top score of 59.

Jainudeen scores a ton
Zahira made a commanding 306 for 5 before declaring on day two in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter against Mahanama played at Maradana.

The second days play too started late with the match beginning only at 12.30 p.m. as on the first day. The opening days play saw Zahira left hand batsman Shihan Jainudeen making a quick fire knock of 101 which helped the Zahirians end the day on 177 for 3.

Shihan’ knock which came off just 65 balls comprised 12 boundaries and five sixes. Zahira resuming on day two were further boosted by half tons from skipper Imras Fasi who made 64 and Arshad Bohoran making an unbeaten 67.


Wesley fast bowler Daniel Bartholomuesz bagged a fifer against Sri Jayewardenapura MV.

Mahanama in their turn finished the day on 189 for 6 with the match ending in a tame draw.

Daniel grabs five
A match figure of 5 for 21 by right arm pacie Daniel Bartholomuesz was the highlight of the Under 19 inter-school cricket match between Wesley and Sri Jayewardenapura MV which ended in a draw at Campbell Park yesterday.

Daniel was supported by his partner Sadeem Thawfeeq who bagged three wickets which helped the home team bundle out Sri Jayewardenapura MV resuming from their overnight score of 29 for 5 for a paltry 85.

But Sri Jayewardenapura MV held out for a draw when they were forced to bat again as they ended the day on 132 for 7.

Wet outfield delays play
Only 28 overs were possible on the second days play between St Joseph’s and D.S. Senanayake MV which was delayed due to wet outfield with the match being able to start off only at 3.30 p.m.
The Josephians who were bundled out for 120 fought back to have DSS who resumed from their overnight score of 35 for 5 to restrict them to a score of 106 for 9.
