Susantha clinches AAC Open Snooker title

By M. Shamil Amit

Reigning national snooker champion Susantha Boteju of YMCA emerged the champion of the inaugural Automobile Association of Ceylon (AAC) Open Snooker tournament when he defeated Ryan Somaratne of Otters AC in the final played at AAC billiards table in Colombo yesterday.
Susantha coasted to a comfortable five frames to two win over Ryan which was played over nine frames. The final played over two sessions which began in the morning saw Susantha take a 3-1 lead in the first session.

Susantha who took the first frame was given a shock by the youngster Ryan who incidentally is the national runner up when he took the second frame. But Susantha unruffled used his experience to the hilt to have the game in control. He bagged the next two frames to take a lead in the first session. The resumption saw Ryan making another shock move when he decreased the lead by taking the fifth frame but that was all that he could do as Susantha playing a cool game finished it off by taking the sixth and seventh frames.

National billiards champion K.H. Sirisoma of SLPA who lost the semi final encounter to champion Susantha took the third place when he defeated up and coming cueist W.M. Naushad of AAC by two frames to one in the three frame decider.
