Royal college, Colombo which is lesser know for its volleyball skills, proved otherwise when their under 19 team qualified for the Semi-Finals of the National Schools Volleyball Championship, in Kurunegala.

Royal team, which emerged champions of Colombo and Western Provincial this year, did extremely well to secure a berth in the semi finals stage.
At the semis, Royal was beaten by Dammissara Vidyalaya, Chilaw.
In the history of Royal Volleyball, in 1989 they qualify for the semi-finals of the Rupavahini Invitation Schools Volleyball Championship and in 1991, they secured a semi final berth in National Schools Volleyball Championship.
Ashoka Wijenayake’s achievement of representing the National pool in 1990 and representing the Junior National team in 1988 and Thusitha De Costa’s achievement of representing the Junior National Volleyball team in 1990, are considered as the highest ever achievements of Royal College Volleyball players so far. |
