The Graduate Institute of Science and Management, Sri Lanka in affiliation with New Zealand's premier Massey University commences its academic role for the nation.
Applications for the renowned Massey University Degree programme are now being received for the student intake in January, 2011. The first year of this degree programme is at the Graduate Institute of Science and Management (GISM) City Campus in Udahamulla, Nugegoda and the remaining two years are continued onward to completion at the Massey University in New Zealand.

Several full diploma and short-term modular courses leading to the full Diploma will start in mid-November, and these courses are specially designed for industry professionals and managers. GISM will generate the diploma holders to be creative and innovative to provide efficient service in both public sector and industry to develop our country.
GISM has also recognized the inability of many G.C.E. Advanced Level qualified students to enter into state sector Universities and therefore this Institute has specially designed Diploma courses in the fields of Engineering, IT, Telecommunication, Business and Management, and, Engineering Sciences, so that students can either go to industry and start working at the end of first year or continue with Higher Diploma programme in the second year for advanced theoretical and practical training.
GISM also focuses on research and consultancy services to support the development aspects of the country. The research projects in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels are supervised by local and foreign experts in respective fields.
The Founder and the First Chairman of The Graduate Institute of Science and Management, Professor Dr G.G. Senaratne notes that GISM is the first institution in Sri Lanka offering a unique service in higher education and research highlighting the development of Sri Lanka in co-operation with prestigious foreign universities and research institutions.
The Minister of Higher Education S.B.Dissanayake has endorsed that through its incorporation with other prestigious international universities, the Graduate Institute of Science and Management provides opportunities to Sri Lankan and students in the neighbouring countries to pursue graduate and postgraduate studies in Sri Lanka thus saving a reasonable amount of hard currency. The Minister has also hailed the Graduate Institute of Science and Management as an ambitious programme delivered as a framework of social responsibility.
According to Prof. Dr. Senaratne the advantages through GISM are two fold. Firstly, the first year graduate study programme of lectures using high-quality teaching methodologies within its City Campus and this is a significant financial saving to the parents. This in turn reasonably reduces the drain of foreign currency out of Sri Lanka.
Asked how the mentoring programme would benefit students, Prof. Dr. Senaratne said, "We have to understand the students' requirements. Each student will be given a mentor. There will be close communication with each student at GISM and necessary guidance will be given under my personal supervision." |
