Payment row lands Chinese worker in hospital

A Chinese national working at the Norochcholai power plant was seriously injured yesterday in a dispute with a fellow Chinese over a delayed salary payment.

At least 40 Chinese nationals working under a sub-contractor are demanding salary payments covering the past 11 months.

The sub-contractor had allegedly assaulted the workers with a wooden pole. The injured person is being treated at the Puttalam Hospital. According to sources, the doctors and the patient are facing a communication problem because of language differences.
