There is no tsunami threat to Sri Lanka despite the continued seismic activity after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in western Sumatra in Indonesia on Monday which triggered a tsunami, leaving more than 400 dead and many others missing.
Since then there have been continuous tremors in the area.
Major General Gamini Hettiarachchi, an official of the Sri Lanka Disaster Management Centre said there is no tsunami threat to Sri Lanka despite the seismic activity off the coast of Indonesia.
The 2004 tsunami which hit Sri Lanka was triggered by a 9.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Indonesia. |
