Scripted by professor K. D. Paranavitana, the travel directory, probably the first such attempt in film format to promote the tourism of one’s country, includes a compact and complete information and all the data pertaining to Sri Lanka’s tourism such as history, archaeology, religious, cultural and social aspects. The audio visual editing of the DVD is by Suresh Ranga Weudagedara while the editor is Thivanka Udagesara and executive producer is Kumudini Kulawardhana.
“This handy, easy to carry DVD will also have important knowledge on the tourism industry including details of all the existing hotels in the country, tour operators, rent a car service, and all other tourism related business ventures, the distance in mileages and other vital information that a tourist must know about Sri Lanka,” said Ranjith Perera about his brainchild.
Ranjith Perera as a young boy started his career in the travel and tourism industry and later ran his own travel and ticketing agency. However later having developed a keen interest in cinema he entered the film industry and produced feature films, teledrama series and short films. The product combining the travel industry and cinema was the ‘Travel Directory’ which used audio visual art to promote travel and tourism fields in Sri Lanka.
“Having worked in both the fields, the idea of making a travel directory in DVD format was something that had been there for a long time,” said Ranjith. However this was impossible due to the heavy cost and laborious and tedious technological work required, he said.
The first step for the island wide travel directory, was four documentaries on the historical sites in Galle, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa and Kataragama, some of which were even selected for international film festivals.
“The Travel Directory highlighting 22 main attractions in Sri Lanka in addition to travel related details will serve as a self tour guide,” Ranjth described.
With vast experience in two different fields Ranjith has contributed with his knowledge and wealth for the development of the country’s travel industry, tourism and on the whole the entire image of Sri Lanka. |
