As the growth and optimistic momentum picks up in post-war Sri Lanka, city hotels are seeing a boom in the demand for Christmas parties and December 31st night dances, with a top hotel already selling out its New Year’s ‘Eve’ event.
A large number of expatriate Sri Lankans living overseas are expected for the December season with many booking into city hotels. Many have already started booking their tickets for the 31st night dinner dance at all the leading hotels in Colombo. At least one hotel, the Cinnamon Grand has sold out its 31st night dinner dance at the Grand Ballroom as early as October. Due to popular demand the Cinnamon Grand will be hosting another dinner dance at the Atrium lobby this year, hotel officials said.
Weddings are also topping the list of bookings at top hotels in the city. The demand and shortage of functions rooms in hotels in December has resulted in several companies having their annual Christmas party early this year. Some of the parties have been booked for the month of November.
Officials at the Ceylon Continental, Taj, Galadari, Cinnamon Grand and Waters Edge told the Business Times that this December season is a good one for the hotels in terms of events plus tourist traffic. |
