The ICT for Sustainable Development Java World Congress will be held on November 19, 20 and 21 in Colombo for the first time, according to organisers.
Under the theme of "integrating ICT to build and strengthen social capital to achieve united national Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)", it will feature presentations by delegates from Sweden, USA, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Singapore, India, Vietnam, Japan, South Africa, Russia, Greece and UAE. These will span areas such as education, food, health, environment, livelihoods, etc. And, following the conference, international delegates are expected to sign the Colombo Declaration on ICT for Sustainable Development.
Meanwhile, the next ICT for Sustainable Development Java World Congress is scheduled for November 25,26 and 27, 2011, in Sanchi, which is in India's state of Madhya Pradesh.
Coinciding with the conference, there will also be a Java Sri Lanka 2010 Computer Software, Education and Samurdhi Vislkam Exhibition. Themed “Wewu Badhi Rajjayen Web Badhi Rajjayata” and referred to as a “e-Parapure Viskam Dakama”, this event will focus on promoting “ICT for All and ICT for All Villages “ and will feature over 300 software solutions developed by the “Java Force“ youth group featuring technologies such as web, micro, mobile, robot, etc. Stalls titled e-School, e-University, e-Jobs, e-Income, e-Media, e-Health, e-Environment, e-Commmerce, e-Village and e-Culture will be on display.
Additionally, held on November 19, to help celebrate the President taking oaths for his second term, will be the "Samurdhi Viskam Udanaya 2010 - National Exhibition of Samurdhi Entrepreneurs". Selected from district level competitions organised by the Saurdhi Authority, this event is intended to support Samurdhi Entrepreneurs in integrating ICT into their business activities with the aim of reaching the global market.
Also held will be “Sithamu - Let's build the Nation”, where sithamu stands for Sinhala (si), Tamil (tha) and Muslim (mu); an exhibition which will showcase the national efforts to use ICT to build and strengthen social capital for social integration.
