Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Secretary to the Treasury in his annual address to Board of Investment (BOI) staff, this week told the organisation to bring in US$ 1 billion in revenue to the state coffers in 2011 to help spur GDP growth in the country, BOI staff said.
"He said that in order to achieve this, the pipeline of projects need to be maintained at US$ 5 billion," a BOI employee told the Business Times. Dr. Jayasundera said the BOI is gearing for the Shangri-La hotel project at Galle Face, China National Aero Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC) hotel and shopping complex also at Galle Face, a host of such projects in Hambantota, etc. He did not refer to the earlier planned restructuring of the BOI, but said that amendments to the BOI Act will come in the January-March quarter. |
