Project Management Institute is a not-for-profit making, a globally recognized organization which is committed to enhance the project management skills and success rates of projects across all industries in which Project Management plays a key role.. The Project management institute represents over 170 countries with expertise of over half a million trained professionals during past 40+ plus years. Project Management institute has also earned the ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 accreditation from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and recognition from American National Standards Institute (ANSI) PMI (Project Management Institute) is the leading certification body for the project management field.
Job security and advancement is vital in today's environment for all professionals and project management is one of today's leading fields. PMI Sri Lanka Chapter was inaugurated in year 2004,. Since then, PMI Sri Lankan Chapter has been contributing, positively towards the maturity of the profession of project management in our Country. Our chapter is headed by a team of very high caliber volunteer professionals with extensive industry level and academic experience in Project management in all fields. PMI Sri Lanka Chapter has been involved in many voluntary and professional development activities from its inception.
Organizing seminars and workshop for Buddhist religious leaders during tsunami rehabilitation projects, conducting project management professional (PMP) and Certified Associate of project management (CAPM) credential examination in Sri Lanka, conducting seminars and workshops to increase awareness and professional development of leading government organizations such as Ceylon Electricity board, Sri Lanka telecomm, Institute of government finance managers association, Government project directors , Secretaries of All Ministries and senior officials of the government, amongst others are some of the voluntary contributions made by PMI Sri Lanka Chapter.
PMI Colombo Chapter (PMICC) has been afforded extensive support for all its activities by H.E., President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his secretary Hon Mr. Lalith Weeratunga as the chapter steps forward to assist in the education of Project management to relevant Government officials
PMICC organizes member forums almost every month to provide networking opportunities among members and other professionals and engrave the opportunities for PMP's (Project management professionals) to earn Professional development units (PDUs) for continuation of their certifications / Credentials and continuous skill upgrade. At the strategic planning session this year PMICC identified and have initiated several opportunities for its Members and volunteer Leader's to enhance their skills sets in different practice areas.

PMI Colombo chapter also provide very valuable services to its members, such as career guidance, Certification / exam preparation guidance and professional networking opportunities in Sri Lanka as well as overseas.
PMI Sri Lanka Chapter organized its first regional project management conference in September 2010. In this conference, a wealth of knowledge was imparted to the Sri Lanka community by 13 foreign and 15 Local speakers including two keynote speakers who presented topics covering project, portfolio and programme management and shared industry case studies. The audience learned from key business leaders across many fields such as agriculture, ports, construction, manufacturing, eco-development projects, IT and Telecommunication, Social development, rehabilitation of war victims, de mining, rural economic development, education, organizational transformation, and consulting. Many professional networking opportunities were also created as a result.
Over 250+ Professional from the region, who participated actively in many sessions , during the first SAARC Conferences, last year September 24-26 held in Colombo, shown the growing demand for such Networking opportunities. With the conference it was globally recognized by the Project Management Institute in ,Sri Lanka is on the right path with the support of Project Management Practices to meet the rapid development Progress of the country.
