Having rendered nine years of dedicated service to Vidura College, Colombo, Mrs. Rohini Weerasighe bade good- bye last December.
Her teaching career spans well over four decades. Hailing from an illustrious family she was always brought up in the laps of luxury. Educated at Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, she was the epitome of a well-brought-up lady. She excelled in many fields while in school.
After her graduation she served at Nalanda College, Colombo, where she won the hearts of many a student. Through her positive approach she could influence her students to be law-abiding and patriotic citizens.

Subsequently she joined Musaeus College where she imparted the feminine touch mingled with refined qualities which is much needed in bringing up girls, along with the highly valued education.
The final lap was a dramatic change - from a scholar in History to the tackling of the First Graders at Vidura College, Colombo. It was quite a successful mission though. The kids adored her as their Head Mistress - reasons for which were many.
Foremost was the love, care and tenderness she had towards the kids. She was able to instil in the kids the basic ethical values too.
Her passion for music and the rare talent of playing musical instruments by ear added much to her popularity amongst the kids.
I, as a member of the Tutorial Staff of Vidura College had the privilege of associating her. Her quality of being humane touched my heart very much.
She had magical words in her, which soothed the hearts of the agonized and the victimized, along with the ability of sorting out problems in a very amicable and logical manner. Many were the parents and teachers who sought counselling in her.
Her personality added much to the post she held as a Head Mistress, bringing much support and strength to the principal- Mr. D.G. Sumanasekara who is also the founder principal of Vidura College.
Another outstanding quality of hers was that she never exerted undue authority on anybody, serving under her, though she had the sole power to do so. Kind words were galore in her which brought about a friendly and peaceful atmosphere in the school - thus every teacher put in her maximum effort to fulfil her duty. The spiritual background she had at every Educational Organization she was attached to enabled her to earn the much valued virtuous qualities. True to the principles of Buddhism she was the personification of Equanimity, never elated by praise, nor shaken by blame. Blame I should say rarely came her way.
With the supreme mission of serving in the Field of Education well-fulfilled, she intends embarking on a new project - that is to serve the needy and the less-fortunate in her home-town.
Social service being her forte, this project becomes an easy task.
She has a heart of gold, a heart that beats for the less-fortunate, and she always felt the pulse of the less-fortunate, these qualities would undoubtedly help her achieve the goal. In an era where GREED tends to overtake NEED she remains a unique character for she believes and acts vice-versa.
The aforementioned project stands evidence to this fact. Enhancing the success in her life is her loving husband Mr. Chandrasiri Wearasinge, who is always willing to go the extra mile for her sake. He is a renowned cricketer of yesteryear at Nalanda College, Colombo.
Having served in many prestigious organizations he retired as the Director -Nations Insurance Brokers. Mr. and Mrs. Weerasinghe are blessed with three loving and dutiful children, a daughter and two sons, who are well placed in society along with their spouses.
May the sunset years of Mr. and Mrs. Weerasinghe's life be more calm and prosperous.
