March 1 2011 marked an important day for Imperial College. It was a day of celebration and recognition as Sri Lankan Prize winners, Imperial College's own high flyers, sportsmanship, commitment and dedication were rewarded at the Imperial College Awards Evening.
The awards ceremony was held at the Imperial College auditorium among a gathering of invitees, parents, prize winners and students. Medals and plaques were awarded to the Sri Lankan Prize Winners at the November 2010 CIMA examinations, Imperial College's own high flyers and students who secured 3 A grades and 2 A grades and 1 B grade at the 2010 Local A/L examinations.
The awards were handed out by the Directors of Imperial College, Mr. Pravinth Rajaratnam and Mr. S. Sivabaskaran and Imperial College lecturers, Mr.Usama Jiffry, Mr. Reshahn Uzman and Miss. Thahani Iqbal.
In his opening statement, S. Sivabaskaran stated that Imperial College was proud to have among the gathering CIMA Sri Lankan Prize winners and numerous students who obtained 3 A grades at the local A/L examinations and others who have done remarkably well and who were also being recognized and awarded with scholarships for the Operational Level. He further stated it was important to reward students who secured very high marks and fell short of a Sri Lankan prize. He said "the celebrations are not only to reward academic achievements, but also to felicitate extra-curricular achievements. In our effort to create the leaders of tomorrow, we reward extra-curricular activities and recognize students who have displayed great efforts and commitment towards organising events"
The highlight of the evening was the vote of thanks delivered by Ashani Amarasinghe, who received the CIMA Sri Lankan Prize for Enterprise Strategy (E3) in addition to receiving the CIMA Sri Lankan Prize for achieving the highest aggregate at the Strategic Level scoring 217 out of a possible 300, at the November 2010 CIMA examinations. In her heart warming address, she said that pursuing CIMA had changed her life, and she was especially grateful to her lecturers at the Strategic Level who take extra effort in ensuring that students are cared for. She further said that she truly felt her lecturers made a difference in her approach to studies and handling the Strategic Level.
The closing address was delivered by Pravinth Rajaratnam, Director Imperial College, who motivated the students who were present at the awards ceremony to achieve greater heights and aim for Sri Lankan and World Prizes.
