Beach volleyball players aim for double gold

The Sri Lankan Beach Volleyball players are presently gearing up for the first ever South Asian Beach Games to be held in Hambantota in September this year. Players are hard at practice at the Negombo Beach Volleyball Courts with residential training due to start from June 1.

Mahesh Perera and Wasantha Ratnapala, the number one ranked Sri Lankan pair is in good shape and determined to secure gold at this historic occasion. The duo posses’ great skills and so much of international experience behind them. They have performed extremely well in the Asian circuit during the recent past and are top in the rankings in South Asian level. They expect a close challenge from the Indian players who have shown great promise since of late.

In the women’s category, the experienced Lankan players have a slight advantage over the Indian counterparts. Players of the caliber of Leena Sadamalie, Geethika Gunawardena have a lot of experience and talent and are expected to peak at the right time.

The men’s team is coached by Prasanna Udayakumara while Former national beach volleyball star, Dammika Silva is in charge of the ladies pool. According to the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, Minister Dilan Perera, the national players were given a lot of foreign exposure during last two years focusing this all important event and expresses confidence that the players would be able to secure both gold medals on offer.
