Teledramas should be broadcast only after 9 p.m. so that they do not distract students from their studies, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Earlier this week, the President commented that teledramas between the hours of 7 pm and 9 pm interfered with children’s homework. “The President has received many complaints from parents who say their children are distracted by programmes aired at these times,” Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premjayantha told the Sunday Times. “He wants to see whether TV shows can be rescheduled.” It is understood that the Minister of Mass Media and Information, Keheliya Rambukwella, will be discussing the matter with private TV stations. |
