A Open Source Web Services conference scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka starting tomorrow will feature IBM's Chief Scientist in India Dr. C. Mohan as well as the creator of Enterprise Integration Patterns, Google Engineer Gregor Hohpe. WSO2CON, the second annual developer event hosted by Web Services company WSO2, is slated to be held between September 12 and 16 at Water’s Edge, Battaramulla. The event will comprise 22 guest speakers who will make their presentations over the course of five full days.
Further, according to WSO2 Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Paul Fremantle, the conference even attracted an attendee from one of the sole remaining Communist states in the world. He told the Business Times: "The amazing thing about Open Source is how it spans the globe. Its one of the key reasons that has allowed the amazing talents of young Sri Lankans to shine so brightly in WSO2. [Jorge Infante Osorio of the Universidad de las Ciencias Informáticas] has been interacting in our open source forums for several years now and he is coming to share his experiences of Open Source SOA in Cuba with us."
Mr. Fremantle, asked to comment on what ideas would be generated at tomorrow’s meeting, added: "They say the best part of conferences are the unscheduled discussions in the corridors, coffee breaks and evening drinks. The seed of WSO2 itself came out of a small discussion between [WSO2 Founder Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana] and myself at a small (20 person) meeting in the World Trade Centre in Colombo in 2004, so I can't predict what incredible ideas, technologies and companies will emerge from getting so many talented, intelligent and motivated people together at Water's Edge this year."
When asked to comment on the technology most looked forward to at this year's event, he notes: "Stratos is WSO2's Open Source Cloud technology and I know that many attendees are here to see where Stratos is today and where it is evolving too. Stratos is a complete Open Source [Platform-as-a-Service] and Cloud Platform and according to leading analysts Gartner shouldn't even exist for another 3 years."
