‘Colours for a Cause’, an arts and crafts exhibition by the children of the Angela Child Development Centre (girls aged between 7-18 years) will be held on Saturday, December 17 from 10.30 a.m.- 7 p.m. at ‘Casa Serena’, No. 122 Havelock Road (opposite Police Park), Colombo 5. All proceeds would be used towards developing the play area of the home.
The children have been working hard these past few months under the guidance of their art and handicraft teacher, to bring together numerous interesting pieces of artwork such as paintings, painted mugs, pottery, bead jewellery and wall hangings. In addition to the children at the Home, some of the children’s friends would also be showcasing their artwork.
The home opened its doors to orphans and socially handicapped children way back in 1951 at the present location Lakshapatiya Moratuwa, at the behest of late Lady Evadne De Silva, wife of late Sir Ernest De Silva. A government approved charity, it is still managed by family members, and supervised by the Child Care and Probation Department.
Artist and children’s author Sybil Wettasinghe will be the chief guest. |
