Sunetha’s ‘Impressions’ in water colour’

Sunetha Kannangara will hold her second solo art exhibition ‘Fleeting Moments II’ Impressions in water colour from January 24 – February 21 2012 at the American Centre, 44 Galle Road, Colombo 3.

One time graphic designer, with a gold medal to her credit, Sunetha turned to water colour painting to capture the subtle nuance of the fleeting moments of nature and the environment. She is fascinated by the versatility and impulsiveness of the medium which is ideally suited for the purpose.

She finds that working in water colour is not without its challenges which compel her to work in tandem with the medium to obtain the best results.

“Sri Lanka, a land blessed with abundant natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage provides limitless opportunities for creative endeavours,” says Sunetha describing themes for her paintings. The present collection of 20 impressions in water colour captures fleeting moments of incredible beauty helping to instill tranquility and contemplation and to connect people to nature’s beauty and rejuvenating power.

‘Fleeting Moments’ exhibitions are in support of the artist’s own ‘Art for  Social Responsibility’ programmes which include providing scholarships to needy students; assisting a Home for intellectually challenged adults located in Kegalle and supporting the Animals’ Welfare and Protection Association (AWPA) in their sterilization and vaccination programmes and in the maintenance of their shelters. The exhibition is sponsored by the American Centre, US Embassy, Colombo.
