‘Duwaru’ to make a difference

Veteran teledrama director Nalan Mendis of ‘Doo Daruwo’ fame will bring yet another teleplay breaking away from the stereotyped stories with ‘Duwaru’ which is played by a number of renowned actors and actresses.

Directing according to the script of award winning theatre director Indika Ferdinando, the teledrama, a story of a mother and her daughters as they faced the challenges to keep their bond of love and close relationship together is played by a Malini Fonseka, Yashoda Wimaladharma, Irangani Serasinghe, Malini Weeramuni, Roshan Pilapitiya and many other multi-talented stars.

Starting on January 23, the100 episode teledrama ‘Duwaru’ will be telecast every weekday from Monday to Friday at 8.30 pm. The story of ‘Duwaru’ begins with the demise of a breadwinner of a well-to-do family and revolves around a mother (Malini Fonseka) who faces the challenges of providing education and careers which her daughters are aspiring to accomplish.

With problems created by a relative who comes to live with the family, the widowed mother comes across many an obstacle. Her younger daughter Nathali who loves the mother and wanted to help her siblings in abroad gives up her impressive career. She even had to sacrifice her fiancé in order to look after the family. The story of ‘Duwaru’ with both tragic and hilarious events takes many dramatic turns.

Award winning teledrama maker Nalan Mendis, for over 20 years has created 15 teleplays including ‘Doo Daruwo’ which won the hearts of country’s TV viewers despite its many episodes. Airing from 1990 to 1995, ‘Doo Daruwo’ won a number of awards including the Most Popular Teledrama in Sri Lanka of its time by drawing in 8 million viewers at its peak.

His other popular and national award winning tele-dramas includes ‘Nedeyo’, ‘Senehewanthayo’, ‘Sathpura Wesiyo’ and ‘Sooriya Daruwo’. His earlier creations for Swarnavahini include ‘Senehasata Awasarai’.
