Salgado forges ahead in all island competition

As the seventh week completed a new entrant made his way into the Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2012 competition but Thurstan College skipper Sajeewa Salgado is still solid as a rock on top. Salgado has stamped his authority by a staggering margin of 2059 votes has earned a clear lead as the top five cricketers remained unchanged from last week.
Angelo Jayasinghe of Maris Stella is in the second slot followed by Charith Ruchiranga and Madhawa Fernando of Royal Panadura, and Lakshan Edirisinghe of Zahira Colombo. Jayasinghe is well ahead of Ruchiranga and Fernando who are closely in the contention with just over 800 votes each. Jayasinghe has an advantage of slightly less than 1000 votes from the Panadura duo. Zahirian Edirisinghe is in the fifth position but the newest competitor, Shiran Anuruddhika of De Mazenod College Kandana, entered the race with 453 votes in a single week.

Kavindu Ashan of Royal Panadura dropped another place for the second successive week as he is placed at number seven. As a result Dishan Dissanayake of St. Joseph’s and S. Thomas’ skipper Sachin Peiris too slid down one slot respectively. The only gainer of the week is Peterite Thanusha Jayawardane jumped one position to the tenth position. St. Benedict’s skipper Jason Perera and Maris Stella all-rounder Shehan Dilasri received less number of votes and were further pushed down. In the Emerging Schools competition Sasindu Perera of St. John’s Panadura stands well ahead of the others. Shenal Deelaka of Piliyandala Central is still in the second place. The International Schools category is obviously turning out to be the most exciting of all three categories as the clash continues to be intensifying among the top three competitors. Lakshan Kodagoda of Gateway International received the most number of votes in the entire competition which 2050 during the completed week. As a result Kodagoda still maintains his lead from his two possible rivals Nishan Perera of Lyceum Nugegoda and Shehan Hettiarachchi of Royal Institute who also received 1524 and 1097 votes respectively. To make the competition more interesting readers can send in as many coupons as they wish until May 23.
