Don Bosco showed why they are the league’s defending champions, taking a 1-0 lead in the first half before fighting off some fierce resistance from a Ratnam team that has been in sublime form this season.
The game’s two hat-trick heroes were Ranga Fernando from Don Bosco and E. B Channa from Ratnam. Dilki Kumara scored the game’s opening goal for Don Bosco.
Meanwhile, Army, who are presently holding down the league’s number two spot, registered an emphatic 6-0 win over Nadimithra, who fell victim to a lethal four goal performance from Mohamed Izzadeen.
After slotting in two goals during the game’s opening half, Izzadeen continued his dominance in the second with two more goals to add to those scored by Chathura Ekanayake and Dunil Perera in the first and second half respectively.
The weekend’s results mean that Army are now in with a long shot of claiming the title. They will need to record a six goal win against the tough New Youngs team to run away with the trophy, if Ratnam fail to record a minimum of a draw against a less than dominant Air Force. |
