While more than 30 applications have been collected for the Trincomalee Port City development project Request for Proposals (RFP) by many local and international bidders so far, more than 10 parties have attended the pre-bid meeting, according to sources.
"DIMO, MTD Walkers, Gulf Shipping, Ultra Cement, JIT Group, Lanka Cement, Colombo Logistics, Ocean Pix and MER Group are amongst those who attended the pre-bid meeting at the Port Committee Building in Fort early this month," a source told the Business Times.
The Industrial Park which consists of 3,000 acres of land will have investment opportunities in various potential sectors. Each investor will be allocated five acres of land at the industrial park. Susantha Abeysiriwardena, Project Director / Chief Engineer Planning and Development of this project told the Business Times that investors are allowed to subdivide or amalgamate the land according to their preferences, etc. While he didn't comment on the firms who attended the pre-bid meeting, he said that more than 30 RFP were collected. "There were firms dealing in ship repairs, oil refineries, petroleum products, etc," he said.
Trincomalee harbour is the second best natural harbour in the world and the available water and land area is about 10 times as much as the Colombo Port. Trincomalee was tentatively identified to cater for bulk and break bulk cargo and port related industrial activities including heavy industries, tourism and agriculture. |
