The Sri Lankan unit of international IT networking giant Cisco recently launched a 6-month internship for the highest performing students participating in its Networking Academy (Net Acad) vocational courses offered at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka, and other local institutes. The internship began in early March 2012.
Called the "Cisco Student Industry Training Programme (CITP)", it will entail a first batch of "16 high-performing Net Acad students and 5 companies", according to statement by the company. Further, the following participating companies were identified: "KBSL Information Technologies Limited, Millennium IT, Lanka Bell, V S Information Systems (Pvt) Ltd and Sumathi Information Technologies (Private) Limited", according to a Cisco media statement.
Cisco said, "Over the course of the six months, Cisco will create a series of interventions, in the form of a schedule of activities, to provide the students with ongoing support and forums for collaboration while ensuring that we manage the programme cohesively with the participating companies and the students. The 6-month initiative will conclude with a business plan competition and a graduation ceremony." (JH) |
