By Shamseer Jaleel

St Peter’s College playing their very first game this season (after the Joes game was called off) scored a rousing win and threatened other schools this season too. The lads from Bambalapitiya ran away beating Kingswood College Kandy by 69 Points (11 tries, 7 Conversions) to 5 Points (1 try) at home in their Under 20 Division 1A Singer League encounter.

At the short breather the winners led 36 points-5.
Peters three quarters were at their very best running at will and looked threatening in all their moves. Sri Lanka Youth player and skipper Dhanushka Ranjan was outstanding. He was omnipresent and almost single handedly powered off with some dashing runs through the weaker Kingswood defense which looked in tatters most parts of the game. Dhanushka got some valuable support from national Youth player and Fly Half Dulaj Perera and winger Banuka Peiries who were at their top. Out of the eleven tries scored yesterday skipper Danushka Ranjan accounted for six while Banuka Peiries touched down on three occasions.

Peterites drew first blood very early in the 2nd minute of play when Winger Banuka Peiries split the Kingswood defense to touch down right corner. Fly Half Dulaj Perera added the extra 2 points. Ten minutes later skipper Danushka Ranjan scored his first try. Immediately Kingswood cut the deficit through a number 8 Uvin Ariyaratne try. Five minutes later skipper Danushka Ranjan scored his second try to take 17-5 lead.

Kingswood playing under pressure looked in pieces when Banuka Peiries dashed through for his second try. Dulaj added the extra 2 points. Within the next 10 minutes home team scored twice through Danushka and Dulaj Perera to take ”Lemons” 36-5.After the turn around Danushka (3) and replacement winger Praveen De Silva touched down with Dulaj Perera on target on three occasions.
