Sarath Gunathilake was re-elected as the president of the Sri Lanka Schools Shooting Sports Association (SLSSSA) at its annual general meeting held at Nalanda College recently. Gunathilake who is the deputy principal of Nalanda College along with his former team of officials at SLSSSA worked diligently to promote rifle shooting as a sport among schools in Sri Lanka. Last year according to R.M.S. Ratnayake, who was reappointed as the tournament secretary for another term, the SLSSSA managed to increase the school base from 50 to 80.
“We will continue to take this sport around Sri Lanka and popularise it among the school children as we have been doing it for the past year. We have also planned to conduct more tournaments in the process,” Ratnayake said.
Jeewanthi Sarathchandra who replaced Denzil Darling as the new secretary also revealed that the new committee of SLSSSA will begin its duties with a two-day residential workshop on rifle shooting at Nalanda College, where a shooting range is available.“We will continue to conduct workshops like this at regular basis. In addition we are planning to conduct the National Schools Rifle Shooting Championship somewhere in June this year. The dates will be finalised very soon,” Sarathchandra disclosed.Former secretary, Darling is the new vice president while Chandima Saman Kumara was elected as the treasurer. - NA |
