Senior Minister A.H.M.Fowzie is to lodge a protest with the Government over a move by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to visit the Muslim Affairs Department and collect information on religious centres and mosques.
Mr. Fowzie told the Sunday Times that a CID team which visited the Muslim Affairs Department at Maradana had collected details of the registered mosques, prayer centres and personal details of the trustees.
“If the Government wants such information it should collect it from the Statistics Department instead of sending CID officials,” he said.
Mr. Fowzie said he would be taking up the matter with Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Muslim Affairs Department Director Y.L.M.Nawavi told the Sunday Times CID officials had collected information of mosques, prayer centres and their trustees.
However, Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana claimed that CID officials did not visit the Muslim Religious Affairs Department.
Meanwhile several other Muslim groups including Deputy Minister Basheer Segu Dawood and Western Provincial Council member Mohammed Mujibar Rahuman are to take up the matter with the Government. |
