I’m sure that each and every one of us has at some point wished that we could
re-live the glory days of our time spent in school. Those days we were forever young and friendships were forged to last a lifetime. For a select few past Wesleyites this wish is about to come true with the Past Cricketers’ Reunion which is being organized over a 4 day period starting from the 06th of September. With a view to bringing together Wesley’s heroes who did their best with bat and ball, and all other past Wesleyites, the reunion will be well attended by many illustrious past Wesleyites from around the world.
The events will kick off on the 06th of September with a special assembly to be held in the Highfield Hall, which no doubt holds many poignant memories for any past Wesleyite, followed by a guided tour of the College premises. This tour in addition to being a true walk down memory lane, will also give the past Wesleyites the privilege of seeing first hand the many developments that have been undertaken to ensure that Wesley College remains to this day, the leading educational institution for young gentlemen in Sri Lanka. The guided tour, which is sure to work up a healthy appetite, will be followed by a sumptuous breakfast that will be served in the College dining hall.
The highlight of the reunion will be held on the evening of the 07th of September with a gala sit down dinner at the iconic Galle Face Hotel. The night will start early and feature a night of musical entertainment and fellowship intended to bring to life the memories that have constantly warmed the hearts of the distinguished attendees throughout their long separation from their Alma Mater.
Much planning and forethought have gone into the organizing of this very special, exclusive evening and it’s sure to bring a smile to the face of every past Wesleyite.
The fun and frolic will continue unabated on the 09th of September with a cricket match to be played at Campbell Park starting from 4.00 pm onwards. Organized to bring to the fore the varied cricketing talents of these past cricketers of Wesley, the match is sure to bring back proud memories of record breaking performances with both willow and leather, and re-kindle the team spirit and camaraderie that has always held sway in the hallowed premises of the Campbell Park Pavilion.
In keeping to the age old traditions of ‘taking cool what ere befall’ the past Wesleyites will follow up on their match winning performances on the pitch with well-earned pitchers of liquid refreshment at the get-together to be held at the Old Wesleyites Sports Club premises that adjoin the pavilion.
Another memorable feature of the reunion is the limited edition souvenir book that celebrates Wesley College’s proud cricketing history from the earliest days to the present. Compiled and edited over many months, the souvenir book features exclusive pictures and articles of extremely high quality, and is definitely a keepsake that every past Wesleyite will feel proud to have.
After all is said and done, we are certain the Past Cricketers’ Reunion will be a memorable event that will be the subject of much well deserved conversation in the days to come!
