Wesley held on to a close 12-10 at the breather while accumulating their points through a goal and two tries to a goal and a penalty by S.Thomas’.
The match was crucial for the two sides as they were the two teams in contention for the second slot in this group. With this win the Wesleyites are assured of the second spot even if they lose their last match against leaders Dharmaraja next week.
The Thomians have undergone two defeats with the first one being against Dharmaraja in a seventh round encounter the previous week and even if they win their last match against they would not be able to make any progress.
It was the Thomians who made the first scoring with a try through center Dhanoj de Silva and fly half Devin Jayasinghe adding the extra points. Devin later booted over a penalty.
Wesley came back as they posted two tries through center Viraj Nisansala and scrum half Rahul de Silva before they changed sides with Wesley hanging on to a two point lead.
The second half was closely contested with no quarters asked or given and it ended with Wesley succeeding midway in this session when second row Udara Gayan barged his way through for a try with the Thomians being unable to make any scoring.
