The eighth round match of the Singer Under 20 Division 1A inter-school rugby tournament between Isipathana and St. Peter’s at Longdon Place which was supposed to be a closely contested game turned out to be a one sided affair with Isipathana chalking up a comfortable 46 points to 20 victory.
Isipathana led 24-10 to lead at the breather and made up their points through four goals, 3 tries and a penalty as against the two goals, and two penalties by St. Peter’s.

The Isipathanians had come into the game well prepared as they ran circles around the Peterites defence that looked uncomfortable during most part of the game. The ‘green shirts’ looked a much better even though the Peterites drew first blood through a try by second rower Chathuranga Mendis with center Dulaj Perera adding the extra points.

Ofcourse the Peterites would have badly missed the absence of regular skipper Dhanushka Ranjan who is nursing n injury he sustained earlier in the season. But even then their other playmaker Dulaj Perera substituting for Dhanushka was unable to make any headway as he was a well marked player right throughout the match.

Isipathana’s full back Sithum Chathuranga was their hero as ran over for three of the six tries that they scored. Following the Peterites try Isipathana had things their own way as they first reduced the lead with a penalty booted over by fly half Kavindu Costa.

This followed with Isipatahan scoring at regular intervals as they posted three tries in the next 20 minutes with first by second row Gamindu Weerasinghe followed by wingthree quarter Uditha Prematileke and center Hirantha Perera.

Later Sithum Chathuranga went over for his first try with Hirantha making two conversions before Dulaj booted over a penalty for the Peterites in the last stages of the first half. The resumption saw the Peterites making the first scoring in the third minute with a penalty booted over by Dulaj. Ispathana in turn increased their lead through a penalty booted over by fly half Kavindu Costa.

Isipathana repeated their first half performance as they again scored three tries in the same pattern with the first two coming from Sithum Chathuranga and the other by No 8 Arun Kumara with Kavindu and Hirantha converting two of those as Isipathana led 46-13 at this stage.

With Isipathana having almost sealed the game in their favour the Peterites in a do or die scored a consolation through Dulaj with he himself converting it before referee Pradeep Fernando blew the long whistle.
