HNB Powers Knowledge and Confidence with Teen+ Quiz Champs

HNB PLC successfully concluded two regional editions of its flagship youth education programme, HNB Teen+ Quiz Champs, in Matara and Badulla. The initiative brought together more than 600 students from 80 schools for a dynamic and engaging competition that tested knowledge across Mathematics, Science, Sports, Technology, Sustainability, History, and General Knowledge.

Organised by the bank’s Deposit Mobilisation Unit, the events were designed to create a platform for schoolchildren to learn, compete, and grow together. In a high-energy and inspiring environment, students demonstrated academic excellence, team spirit, and a love for learning, the bank said in a media release.

The quiz series also connects with HNB’s broader Teen+ proposition - an account designed exclusively for teens living life to the fullest. Where an account can be opened with just Rs.1000, offers a secure Tap & Go debit card, real-time SMS alerts, full access to digital banking, cash withdrawals, e-statements, and exclusive discounts and offers. HNB Teen+ enables students to manage their banking while discovering new interests and responsibilities.

At the Matara edition, held with the participation of 42 schools and over 340 students, Sujatha Vidyalaya – Matara clinched the championship title, followed by St. Thomas’ College – Matara and Rahula College – Matara in second and third place, respectively. The event was graced by HNB Vice President -Deposits, Viranga Gamage, and AVP/Regional Business Head – Southern Rajitha Wijenayake.

Meanwhile, the Badulla edition drew participation from 38 schools and 304 students. Badulla Central College emerged as champions, with Bandarawela Central College and Uva Science College taking second and third place. HNB Senior Vice President/ Head Retail Banking, Kanchana Karunagama, and Vice President - Deposits, Viranga Gamage, were present at the event as chief guests.

Commenting on the programme, HNB Senior Vice President /Head of Retail Banking, Kanchana Karunagama noted:
“Through Teen+ Quiz Champs, we are empowering the next generation to approach learning with enthusiasm and curiosity. The energy and passion we saw from the students was truly remarkable, and we are proud to support platforms that inspire growth, collaboration, and confidence among young learners.”

Vice President - Deposits, Viranga Gamage added:

Both events received strong positive feedback from students, teachers, and officials from the Ministry of Education, reinforcing the value of HNB’s contribution to education and youth development.
