There were 5.13 million kg of tea on offer at this week’s Colombo Tea Auction with 2.15 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 1.71 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades, the Asia Siyaka tea market report stated.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues select best BOP1s maintained, whilst OP1s declined. A range of best varieties maintained, whilst others declined substantially. Select best OP/OPAs were barely steady and mostly easier; best and below best varieties declined.
Select Pekoe/Pekoe1’s gained, whilst others were fully firm; below best varieties maintained following quality; teas at the lower end were irregular and mostly easier. In the Premium Flowery catalogues well-made tippy teas maintained; whilst others were easier.
Improved demand at this week’s Ex-Estate catalogue with select best Western BOP/BOPF gained Rs.50 to Rs.100 on special inquiry; their below best and others too were dearer Rs.20 to Rs.50. A very few Nuwara Eliya’s were on offer this week. Udapussellawa BOP/BOPF’s were firm to slightly dearer, whilst Uva’s tended irregularly lower. Medium BOP/BOPFs were firm to slightly dearer. CTC BP1s were about firm, whilst CTC PF1s were dearer upto Rs.20.
