The Colombo Tea Auction saw quantities reaching 5.75 million kg of tea auction, 2.36 million kg were Low Grown Main Grades and 2.12 million kg were High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
In the Low Grown catalogues, Leafy and Semi Leafy categories met with fair demand, whilst tippy category met with less demand. In the leafy and semi leafy catalogues clean well-made BOP1 /OP1s maintained, whilst majority declined substantially. Others and poorer sorts were generally firm.
In the small leaf catalogues select best FBOP/FBOPF1s were easier, whilst a range of best FBOPs maintained. Corresponding FBOPF1s declined substantially. Teas at the lower end too were easier. In the Premium Flowery catalogues a few well-made teas maintained, whilst others declined.
Best Western BOPs were lower upto Rs.40, whilst below best and bottom lost Rs.50 and more. Better Udapussellawa BOPs gained upto Rs.50, whilst BOPFs were firm. Well-made Uva BOPs gained upto Rs.50, whilst better BOPFs were firm. Best Medium BOPs were lower, others were firm. BOPFs were irregularly lower. CTC BP1s were a lower market and the CTC PF1s maintained; others lower upto Rs.50. (SD)
