This week the Colombo Tea Auction had on offer 6.40 million kg of tea with 2.49 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 2.23 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades, the Asia Siyaka Market report stated.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues Select Best BOP1/OP1s declined substantially, whilst Best/Below Best varieties were generally firm following quality. Teas at the lower end were barely steady.
Select Best/Below Best Pekoe’s were easier, whilst corresponding Pekoe 1’s maintained. Teas at the lower end were generally firm. Teas at the lower end appreciated.
There was fair demand at this week’s Ex-Estate auction. Selected well-made Western BOP/BOPF’s gained Rs.40 to Rs.50. The others were irregular and tended lower. Select Nuwara Eliya BOPs were firm on last, whilst the others were lower and most BOPFs were unsold.
Udapussellawa BOPs were about firm Rs.20 dearer and clean BOPFs were firm; others lower Rs.10 to Rs.20. Well-made Uva BOPs gained sharply and their BOPFs were firm; below best were irregularly lower upto Rs.40. (SD)
