The SLIM SME Development Awards (SMEDA) 2024, organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) in collaboration with the Asia Small Business Federation (ASBF) Sri Lanka Chapter, has officially entered its judging phase. This prestigious initiative celebrates the achievements of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) while reinforcing SLIM’s mission of positioning marketing as a key driver of national economic development. SMEDA aims to recognize SMEs that excel in marketing, branding, and sales, helping them transition into sustainable, competitive enterprises.

SLIM President Professor Dewasiri N. Jayantha shared: "SMEs contribute 52% to GDP and 45% to employment, but many face barriers due to limited marketing exposure. SMEDA bridges this gap by embedding marketing excellence into their growth journey. We invite entrepreneurs to join this mission to promote inclusive, innovation-driven economic growth." Enoch Perera, (Vice President - Events & Sustainability), emphasized: "This second edition of SMEDA reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering micro and small businesses. It’s not just about celebrating achievements, it’s about equipping businesses to thrive in competitive environments." Dr. Dilhan Sampath Jayatilleke, (Vice President - Education & Research), noted: "We view SMEDA as a national responsibility. All participants benefit from expert evaluation, gaining knowledge to improve their business strategies and performance. This is more than an award, it’s a platform for transformation."

As co-organizer, the Asia Small Business Federation (ASBF) - Sri Lanka Chapter supports SMEDA 2024 by connecting local SMEs. Gayan Perera, (Inaugural President of ASBF Sri Lanka Chapter), stated: "SMEDA 2024 marks our first initiative to empower SMEs through marketing. ASBF opens access to global partnerships, knowledge, and innovation-driven growth. We warmly welcome all SMEs to join us on this journey." Project Chairperson Asanka Udayakumara said: "The enthusiasm from entrepreneurs shows the trust placed in SMEDA. We now look forward to recognizing winners across 14 business sectors. We also invite corporate sponsors to partner with us and connect with Sri Lanka’s most dynamic entrepreneurs."

A panel of experienced professionals has commenced evaluation across ten categories. Head of Jury Kumar Samarasinghe added: "These awards provide meaningful feedback and inspire excellence. Success comes from vision, strategy, and sincere effort." The grand finale will be held on April 28, 2025, from 3:00 PM onwards at Monarch Imperial, gathering SME leaders, innovators, and industry influencers for an inspiring evening.
