Rienzie Arsecularatne, a senior lawyer and former Director General of the Bribery Commission, has been appointed the new chairman of HNB (bank) with effect from May 1, the bank announced on Thursday. Mr. Arsecularatne, a government nominee, was (earlier) appointed a director of the bank effective April 30. He takes over from Ms Rose Cooray, director, who had been the interim chairperson. Palitha Pelpola, D. Soosaipillai and A.N. de Silva has been appointed as new members to the board. The changes follow a government decision to replace all those who were appointed in commercial banks by the previous regime.

The Colombo High Court today (28) sentenced former parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra to three years of Rigorous Imprisonment over charges of the involvement of an abduction.
In his special statement, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that debt restructuring agreements will postpone all bilateral loan payments to foreign countries until 2028. Additionally, Sri Lanka will have until 2043 to repay these loans on concessional terms.
