Sri Lanka’s Central Bank is set to release its 2015 annual report at a media briefing later on Tuesday (at 5 pm) which would include GDP growth figures and other data.
In a notice to the media, the bank said it was presenting highlights of its yet-to-be released 2015 annual report at Tuesday’s briefing which was earlier intended to announce the monetary policy review for April.
Today’s announcements come in a backdrop of a crisis emerging in the balance of payments, pressure on the Sri Lanka Rupee and inadequate revenue pay for state spending. On Friday night, the Ministry of Finance announced drastic measures ordering exporters to bring back their proceeds by May 1 (in the case of exports done before April 1) and in 90 days for exports executed after April 1. The new rules cancel a 1993 regulation which freed exporters from bringing their money back. – ENDS -
