The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has decided to grant a 10 per cent discount on transshipment handling charges of shipping lines on route to Myanmar, a media release issued by the Ports Ministry said.
The decision was taken following a request made by SLPA and the ship companies, it was stated.
The decision aims to get attract the fast growing transshipment industry in Eastern India, Bangladesh and Myanmar, to the Colombo port.
Transshipment volumes to Myanmar have notably increased, the release said adding that a feeder service between the Colombo port and Yangoon port of Myanmar was started recently in order to strengthen the effort. *(SD)*
