Gihan Jayasinghe has been appointed Chairman of Finlays Businesses in Sri Lanka with effect from January 1, the company announced on Saturday.
Prior to his appointment as Chairman he held the positions of Deputy Chairman/Managing Director of Finlays Colombo Limited and Managing Director of Hapugastenne Plantations PLC and Udapussellawa Plantations PLC. He is the Country Head of Finlays, Sri Lanka.
Mr. Jayasinghe joined Finlays in February 2006, as the Chief Executive Officer of Finlay Cold Storage (Pvt) Ltd and was appointed Director of that subsidiary in February 2008. He was appointed an Executive Director of Finlays Colombo PLC in November 2014, and subsequently as Managing Director in May 2018. He was also the Group Director overseeing the company’s value added tea – processing and blending, tea logistics, green tea manufacturing and export operations. He was appointed to the Boards of Hapugastenne Plantations PLC and Udapussellawa Plantations PLC in April 2017 and appointed Managing Director of these companies on 3rd September 2018.
“He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), is a fellow of the Chartered Management Institute – UK (FCMI) and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport – UK (CMILT). He has served as an Executive Committee/Council Member in the Sri Lanka branch of these institutes in various capacities including Vice Chairman of CILT Sri Lanka and member of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce sector steering committee. He is an Alumnus of INSEAD Business School. He is currently a Council Member of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon,” the company statement said.
