The Royal Turf Club (RTC) Nuwara Eliya was launched at a media briefing on Tuesday that is set to attract increased tourists to the country on the back of horse racing.
The RTC has brought down inaugural CEO and Chairman of Stipendiary Stewards Wayne Wood and Sinclair Marshall as the RTC as its Thoroughbred Riding Instructor and Stipendiary Steward.
RTC is headed by Suranjith Premadasa, President of the RTC and office bearers of RTC are: Secretary Lucille Dahanayake and Treasurer Nishitha Rupasinghe and Committee comprising Ranjith Dahanayaka, Ms. Nihara Jayatilleke and Mr. Sudarshana Deshapriya.
The RTC has invested heavily in developing the racecourse in Nuwara Eliya and is looking at promoting sports tourism and set to attract overseas riders for the scheduled horse racers in March, April, August, September, October, November and December this year. (SD)

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
