SriLankan Airlines at the weekend placed newspaper ads calling for applications to fill the vacant posts of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Kapila Chandrasena, the former CEO, stepped down from his post days prior to the release of the interim report on the airline by the J.C. Weliamuna committee where Chandrasena, along with the former chairman Nishantha Wickremasinghe, was accused of several, allegedly irregular decisions. After a new board of appointed, the post was filled by an acting CEO Rakhitha Jayawardena as a temporary move. The national carrier has said the both locals and foreigners can apply for the positions. The CCO position was last held by G.T. Jayaseelan who retired after a long service with the company. (SD)

The Colombo High Court today (28) sentenced former parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra to three years of Rigorous Imprisonment over charges of the involvement of an abduction.
In his special statement, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that debt restructuring agreements will postpone all bilateral loan payments to foreign countries until 2028. Additionally, Sri Lanka will have until 2043 to repay these loans on concessional terms.
