Supiripola (www.supiripola.lk), the latest online platform which is catering to the needs of Sri Lanka’s lockdown community with the essential goods delivery, performed an historic task of using drones to deliver medicines to the quarantined area of Grandpass and Nagalagam Street in Colombo.
Over 150 families live in this area to which Supiripola delivered essential goods in the past two days. The company used its fleet of drones to deliver crucial medicines to the people of the area under the guidance of the area’s public health officer, it said in a media release.
‘’This is a definite first for Sri Lanka’s delivery logistics. Keeping in mind the need to be prepared and equipped to deliver to any location, Supiripola has developed these technical capabilities and we are continuing to develop more techniques and equipment to reach out to every corner of our country with the people’s safety and well-being our utmost target,’’ said Mayran Vinoth, Group Chief Technical Officer of Supreme Global Holdings which owns the digital platform..
The delivery of medicines was made on behalf of ‘Omar Qandeel Impact Fund’ which is donating many essential goods to the needy people of Colombo in multiple locations.
“It is very common in developed countries to use drones for urgent/emergency deliveries. But this is the first time such a technique was tested in Sri Lanka. It is a comfort to know that the usage of drones can be of help to people to receive their crucial needs under any circumstances, especially during a lockdown situation,” Mr. Vinoth said.
