The first Kandy edition of the Galle Literary Festival took place over last weekend (9 and 10 January) at the Queens Hotel. The festival began with a guided tour around Kandy by Channa Daswatte, and a session on Sinhala poetry featuring Sunanda Karunaratne, Timran Keerthi and Isuru Chamara.
Sebastian Faulks followed with his critically acclaimed ‘Faulks on Fiction’ talk that explored some of British literature’s most memorable characters.
In the afternoon, Shani Mootoo read from and answered questions about her novels ‘Cereus Blooms at Night’ and ‘Moving Forward Sideways Like a Crab’. In the evening the Grassrooted Trust presented a collection of skits on sexuality, social media and society.
