Gayathri Govind, grand daughter of noted theatre director late Kalanilayam Krishnan Nair and Kodungallur AmminiAmma, daughter of Kalanilayam Ananda Padmanabhan, is a professional Mohiniyattam dancer. She is currently learning Kathakali.

Kalanilayam Dramas formed by Kalanilayam Krishnan Nair in 1963 was phenomenal in the Kerala theatre community and created the concept of a permanent stage with revolving stage. After the death of Krishnan Nair, in 2003 his son, Kalanilayam Anantha Padmanabhan and the noted film actor Jagathy Srikumar revived the theatre group and recreated some of Kalanilayam's popular dramas like the Raktharakshas, KadamattathuKathanaar etc.

Gayathri is equally passionate about theatre and plays the protagonist of Kalanilyam Drama’s latest production, ‘Hidimbi-An Arrow FromThe Past’ which has been staged in and out of Kerala. Hidimbi is a two-hour long drama in which Gayathri plays the role of Hidimbi. The central theme of the drama revolves around the life of Hidimbi, the wife of Bheema and how the lives of women still remain unchanged even during modern times.

Gayathri has received acclaim for her performance as Hidimbi. She currently conducts workshops, seminars and performances in the field of modern theatre, Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattom and is also the host of Kalanilayam’s new attempt since the lockdown, “Kalanilayam Live” where eminent personalities from different walks of life are invited and interviewed.
